Spring 2016 Course Catalog

CIC Consortium for Online Humanities Instruction

This catalog includes upper-level humanities courses offered by the colleges and universities that are part of CIC’s Consortium for Online Humanities Instruction. Undergraduate students from any participating institution are invited to enroll in any of these courses, for credit, subject to limits on class size, course prerequisites, and regulations in place at their home institutions.
Qualified students will be accepted on a first-come basis. There will be no additional tuition or fees for students who enroll in these courses. With a few exceptions (for example, the courses listed under Russian), these online courses will be offered during the spring 2016 semester only.

How to Use this Catalog

There are two ways to search the catalog: by field of study (English, history, etc.) or by host institution. You also can view all course listings on one web page or download a PDF of the course descriptions.
Each course listing includes detailed registration instructions from the host institution. Students and advisors also should make sure to follow the registration requirements of their home institutions.
All courses follow the academic calendars at the host institutions, so please note the start dates, end dates, and registration periods. Links to the academic calendars at each institution can be found on the registration information page. All courses will be offered online, but many courses require participation in one or more “synchronous” (i.e., real-time but at a distance) meetings with the instructor and other students. Students will have access to all the digital resources they need to complete these courses.
For questions about an individual course, contact the instructor. For questions about registration, ask the registration contact listed for each course. For questions about the CIC Consortium, contact Philip M. Katz at This catalog was last revised on January 15, 2016.
