About the Conversation

The program’s goal is to help college leaders understand why foundations choose the areas of support that they do and why they choose to fund certain projects in order to serve their larger purposes. CIC also hopes that the meeting will help foundation leaders understand how creative and effective many of the lesser-known small colleges are and how helpful these institutions can be in advancing the foundations’ goals. The meeting is emphatically not intended for foundation leaders to recite their program guidelines, nor for college presidents to press specific proposals.

Presenters

  • Stephanie Bell-Rose, Head, TIAA Institute, and Senior Managing Director, TIAA
  • Sean Buffington, Vice President, Henry Luce Foundation
  • Andrew Delbanco, President, Teagle Foundation
  • Daryl A. Graham, Senior Vice President, Philanthropy, Strada Education Network
  • Sarah L. Simmons, Assistant Director, Science Education, Howard Hughes Medical Institute
  • Eugene M. Tobin, Senior Program Officer, Higher Education and Scholarship in the Humanities, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
  • Rebeca Vargas, President and CEO, U.S.-Mexico Foundation

Who May Participate

In order to preserve the candid nature of the Foundation Conversation, only CIC member presidents are invited to participate; development and other campus officers may not attend. CIC also encourages effective interaction by keeping the meeting small, limited to approximately 100 presidents. For that reason, your early registration is encouraged.
