President’s Message

Dear Colleagues,

Marjorie Hass headshot

As I complete my first year at CIC, I am reflecting on my commitment to our members. As one of the very few shared resources for our sector, CIC has an important responsibility to live up to the three parts of our mission: developing and supporting leaders, enhancing institutional excellence, and shaping the national conversation around independent higher education.

At CIC we have spent the past year listening, learning, and interpreting data to ensure that we continue to offer and update the member services that are most valuable to you and that we invest in new services and opportunities that enhance your effectiveness in serving the more than two million students who attend CIC institutions. The changes you will see at CIC are evolutionary. We are proud to build on past success and the strengths of both CIC and our member institutions. As you will see in this edition of our newsletter, we are also cultivating new competencies and responding to a changing environment.

The CIC board has endorsed four areas of strategic focus that will guide our decision making over the next few years. We look to engage our members more deeply and support the development of collaborative shared solutions that create value for individual institutions and organizations as well as for the overall sector of independent higher education.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our many in-person convenings and on our virtual webinars. You are also welcome to stop by our offices in DC when you are in town. I am eager to visit member campuses and to talk with you by phone or Zoom. Let us know the ways we can assist you and your campus or organization.

Warmly,
Marjorie
