CIC Strategic Priorities and Focus Areas

In May 2022, the CIC Board of Directors affirmed a set of strategic focus areas to guide future decision making and programming. Recommended by CIC president Marjorie Hass, these focus areas are grounded in internal and external data about the state of independent higher education, extensive feedback from CIC members, and an operational review of CIC’s capacities and opportunities. Over the next several years, President Hass and the CIC staff will use these focus areas to enhance member services and programs. The focus areas are intended to guide but not constrain. CIC will remain responsive to unexpected opportunities and to the changing needs of CIC campuses and emergent member priorities. Read the full article

  • New Resources for Reckoning with the Legacies of Slavery

    CIC is pleased to announce three new resources to help member colleges and universities explore, teach, and address the multiple legacies of slavery in American life. Members can view a virtual symposium tackling issues of memory and teaching; consult a resource database featuring ongoing work from member institutions; and subscribe to a new blog sharing current information about CIC’s Legacies of American Slavery initiative.  Read the full article

    A new CIC report, Diversity, Civility, and the Liberal Arts: Reflections on a CIC Initiative, offers practical resources and lessons learned from two recent CIC Institutes. Several eventful years after the institutes took place, participants convened to reflect on lessons learned and how their work at the Institutes shaped efforts on their campuses.  Read the full article
