2020 State Councils Annual Conference
The 2020 CIC State Councils Annual Conference will showcase the many ways effective State Councils support private colleges and universities and strengthen higher education. This year’s conference will take place April 26–28, at the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel in Austin, Texas.
The program will provide executives, fundraising officers, and communications staff from CIC’s 27 State Councils with peer-to-peer networking opportunities, in addition to interactive program sessions addressing pressing challenges in higher education. Guest speakers and state executives will discuss topics such as corporate stewardship; board development; fundraising; trends in marketing; STEM education; collaborative technology programs; and transfer pathways between community colleges and private four-year colleges and universities—all areas of State Council activity.

CIC and UPS Recognize Impact of Partnership during Atlanta Meeting
Since 1981, students from underserved populations who study at private colleges and universities that belong to State Councils have received CIC/UPS scholarships to make their educations more affordable. Awarded since 2010 by CIC through its State Councils, the scholarships for the 2019–2020 academic year totaled more than $1.6 million in student financial aid for use at 536 institutions. In addition, CIC awards grants to State Councils designed to help institutions collaborate to enhance academic programs and services for these students.
In recognition of the significant impact of the CIC/UPS partnership, CIC President Richard Ekman and Vice President for State Council Programs Carol Schuler visited foundation leaders at the UPS headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. The January 24 meeting gave UPS and CIC an opportunity to review the results of this historic partnership and to discuss new initiatives to help students and advance private higher education.
Gathered in front of a UPS 1913 Ford Model T truck on display inside UPS headquarters are CIC Board member Phillip Chritton, vice president, legal, UPS; Richard Ekman, president, CIC; Carol Schuler, vice president for State Council programs, CIC; Cathy Scott, global corporate relations director, the UPS Foundation; Malcolm Berkley, vice president, the UPS Foundation; Stephen Jones, corporate talent acquisition director, UPS; and Tom Pizzuti, vice president, talent acquisition, UPS.
