Smaller private colleges and universities encourage students to study-abroad and experience diverse cultures and peoples. For example, 27 percent of seniors at non-doctoral private colleges (“non-doctoral” meaning colleges that don’t offer PhD programs) participated in a study-abroad program, while 11 percent of seniors at non-doctoral public colleges had similar experiences.
