WASHINGTON, DC – Jacqueline D. Skinner has been appointed Associate Director of the Consortium for the Advancement of Private Higher Education (CAPHE), a grantmaking organization that assists foundations and corporations to foster improvement and reform in private liberal arts colleges and universities.

Skinner’s responsibilities include program development and administration, and research on issues of importance to private higher education. She began her new position on August 7, 2000.

Skinner has been associate dean of students at St. Olaf College, in Northfield, Minnesota, since 1997. Prior to that appointment she held a number of positions at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. In addition to being an instructor in the Department of Educational Curriculum and Instruction, she was an academic program specialist in the Office of Student Multicultural Services, and was a project manager for the Campus Community Initiative. From 1988 to 1992 Skinner was assistant dean of students at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Prior to that, she was coordinator of Black student programs at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, where she was also director of the Era Bell Thompson Cultural Center.

“Dr. Skinner possesses the right combination of skills, interests, and experiences for the associate director position,” stated Michelle D. Gilliard, Executive Director of CAPHE. “Coming to CAPHE directly from a small private college, there is a currency to her understanding and appreciation for both the challenges and opportunities these institutions face on a daily basis. Dr. Skinner’s experiences contribute broadly to all that CAPHE and CIC do in support of the nation’s private liberal arts colleges and universities. We are fortunate to have her as the associate director.”

An established presenter on such topics as diversity, campus crime, and women’s issues, Skinner also consults with institutions on human resource issues. An active volunteer with community groups, she has served on many volunteer boards. In 1997 she was awarded the Barbara Jordan Community Service Award at Old Dominion University.

Skinner earned her Ph.D. in urban services, with a concentration in higher education, from Old Dominion University. Her master’s degree, in counseling and college student personnel services, is from Western Illinois University.
