Dear
Reader,
I hope you have enjoyed this issue of the Independent, my first as CIC's
Director of Communications. As the successor to Steve Pelletier, who
served CIC admirably as Vice President of Communications for 17 years,
I have my work cut out for me. Steve produced an incredible array of
publications and services for CIC member institutions, and I intend
to do the same. In fact, the communications staff is engaged in several
endeavors aimed at increasing the effectiveness of CIC's communications
with presidents, chief academic officers, and public affairs/communications
directors on our member campuses. We are creating an online version
of the Independent that will be posted on the website and e-mailed
directly to our members. We are also redesigning CIC's website to attain
improved functionality as well as a more updated look that incorporates
CIC's award-winning "Infinity" logo. In addition, we are exploring ways
to archive the president and CAO listservs and to improve the marketing
of CIC events. I hope to hear from you and welcome your feedback, story
ideas, news, and photographs of your campus, as well as relevant resources,
presidential writings, or columns of interest to your peers and readers
of the Independent. I can be reached at (202) 466-7230 or by e-mail
at lwilcox@cic.nche.edu.
