Davies-Jackson Scholarship: Instructions for Completing Application Form

The Davies-Jackson Scholarship holder(s) will be admitted to Cambridge as an Affiliated Student. An Affiliated Student is a graduate holding an approved degree from another University, who is admitted to work for the Cambridge B.A. degree. Affiliated Students will normally have taken a full-time, three-year Honors degree course, finishing at a high standard. They then go on to take the more advanced parts of a Cambridge degree course and qualify for the B.A. in two years instead of the usual three. Upon the successful completion of two years of study, candidates are awarded a Cambridge B.A. degree, often referred to as the Cantab degree, which is the equivalent of a masters degree in the U.S.

Application Procedure.
Send the original and completed application form plus four (4) copies to A. Graham Down, Director, Davies-Jackson Scholarship Program, c/o The Council of Independent Colleges, One Dupont Circle, NW, Suite 320, Washington, DC 20036, together with:

4) Recommendations. You should ask at least two (2) persons acquainted with your academic work (not members of your family) to complete the enclosed recommendation form on your behalf, indicating your academic fitness and general suitability to undertake your proposed course at Cambridge. These referees should be asked to send their letter directly to the Davies-Jackson Scholarship Committee. Your referees should be aware that there is no standard right of access to references in the United Kingdom. YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED UNTIL ALL LETTERS OF REFERENCE HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.  ALL MATERIALS ARE DUE BY NOVEMBER 12, 2007.

Note: If your native language is not English, St. John’s College wishes to be told about the standard of your proficiency in English, and you should ask your referees to mention this when they write.
