Archives and the Institutional Saga

March 22, 2024 Rooms 206–207

This session will share the hard-earned wisdom of experienced college and university archivists, who are doing the delicate work of discovery and dissemination of new information about the past to help their institutions reframe—and sometimes reckon with—their historical narratives. Panelists will speak about why it is worth the time and effort to begin this challenging work, and about the complexities of presenting archival material in a way that promotes healthy campus conversation and critical thought. Significant time in this session will be devoted to a workshop format, allowing all participants to ask and answer questions about the discovery and dissemination of archival materials, and about using records of the past to help an academic community reexamine and better understand the callings of their institution.
