West Virginia Colleges' Impact

West Virginia’s private higher education institutions directly generate $345 million annually for the state’s economy and indirectly add millions of dollars more. This is according to a study conducted by West Virginia University researchers for West Virginia Independent Colleges and Universities, a consortium of the state’s nine private schools. The schools employ a total of more than 6,200 people and have a total payroll of more than $121 million. The study shows that during the 2004-05 school year, more than 11,500 students were enrolled in private colleges and universities. The schools also generate $7 million in tax revenue for the state…
