CIC's newsletter, the Independent, provides various coverage of CIC Making the Case issues and initiatives:

The Campus Update section of the Independent contains a compedium of news occuring on CIC campuses, demonstrating the range of important contributions and achievements CIC institutions are making nationwide:

  • Campus Update - Summer 2009
    CIC institutions continue taking efforts to mitigate the economic impact, seven faculty members and administrators from CIC institutions attend the 2009 Frye Leadership Institute, several institutions highlight their environmental leadership steps, and six institutions report either eliminating the SAT or making it "test-optional."
  • Campus Update - Winter/Spring 2009
    CIC institutions assist students and families during the economic downturn, Saint Xavier University (IL) discovered forgotten records from the historic 1854 Lincoln-Douglas exchange, 25 CIC institutions were recognized by the Carnegie Foundation, and eleven CIC faculty members were named 2008 state winners in the 2008 U.S. Professors of the Year.
  • Campus Update - Fall 2008
    Widener University (PA) hosted a campaign event for then-presidential candidate Barack Obama, institutions begin to react in creative ways to the economic crisis, several dorms were recognized for distinction, and two CIC students won medals at the summer Olympics.

    Various institutions including Culver-Stockton College (MO) offered relief aid during Midwest flooding, Juniata College (PA) explores the science of music, and many CIC institutions are named among the "Best Colleges to Work For" by the Chronicle of Higher Education.

    CIC institutions ramped up their political involvement for the presidential primaries, a Hastings College (NE) alumnus discussed life on the International Space Station, Dominican University of California opened a $21 million science center, and St. Edward's University (TX) students attended class in a virtual world.

    Dakota Wesleyan University (SD) dedicates the George and Eleanor McGovern Library and Center for Leadership and Public Service, Washington and Lee University (VA) helps launch the Nuclear Energy Project, Lyon College (AR) receives its 13th Professor of the Year Award in the last 18 years, and numerous CIC institutions undertake environmental initiatives.

    Chowan University (NC) and other CIC institutions conduct international activities, Chapman University (FL) professor helps authenticate and translate the newly discovered Gospel of Judas, Warren Wilson College (NC) converts its campus to 100 percent "green" power, and King's College (PA) announces new Genomics Center.

    Eckerd College (FL) students climb Mt. Kilimanjaro as part of leadership course, Wabash College (IN) announces a new national liberal arts study, and numerous CIC institutions continue hurricane relief efforts during spring break.

    Pace University (NY) becomes new home for Emmy-nominated television show, Ashland University (OH) and Aquinas College (MI) launch innovative online resources, and numerous CIC institutions rally to aid Hurricane Katrina victims.

    President Bush gives commencement address at Calvin College (MI), Cedarville University (OH) claims its second-straight world championship in intercollegiate solar boating, and CIC institutions increase programs and activities on the study of Islam and Middle East relations.

    Irish Prime Minister visits Le Moyne College (NY), Benedictine University (IL) participates in cutting-edge physics project, and numerous CIC institutions aid tsunami-devastated regions.
