Independent colleges place greater emphasis on values and ethics than public universities—and their graduates express a correspondingly stronger set of personal and professional values, and a greater commitment to improving society.
Fact 1 - Moral Principles
Independent college alumni surveyed are nearly three times as likely as
public university graduates to say that their college experience was extremely
effective at helping them develop moral principles to guide their actions
(36 percent vs. 13 percent).
Fact 2 - Emphasis on Values and Ethics
Independent college alumni surveyed are more than three times as likely
as public university graduates to say they benefited very much from an
emphasis on personal values and ethics.
Fact 3 - Values and Ethics in the Classroom
Independent college alumni surveyed are more than twice as likely as public
university graduates to say they more frequently experienced an integration
of values and ethics in the classroom.
Fact 4 - Community Building
Independent college alumni surveyed are more likely than public university
graduates to believe that contributing to their community is extremely
important (43 percent vs. 32 percent).
Fact 5 - Social Justice
Independent college alumni surveyed are more likely than public university
graduates to believe that promoting racial equality or other social justice
issues is extremely important (40 percent vs. 32 percent).
Fact 6 - Integrating Faith
Independent college alumni surveyed are more likely than public university
graduates to say that integrating faith into other aspects of their lives
is extremely important (47 percent vs. 34 percent).
