Independent college students and alumni are more involved in community service and volunteer activities than students and alumni from public universities.
Fact 1 - Community Service
More than half of independent college and university graduates surveyed
participated in volunteer and community service activities, a greater
proportion than public university alumni (54 percent vs. 45 percent).

Fact 2 - Voting
Seventy-three percent of the young people attending all independent colleges
and universities voted in the 2000 election, compared with 36 percent
of all 18 – 24 year old citizens.
