Questions & CommentsA Record of Successful Reform Through Grants

The Consortium for the Advancement of Private Higher Education (CAPHE) grants have often been at the forefront of innovative approaches to meeting the changing needs of students and society:

Costs And Pricing

A number of CAPHE grantees have undertaken careful study and realignment of their operating costs and tuition pricing structures.

Teaching And Learning

Grants for faculty and staff development have helped colleges improve their learning theory and pedagogy-resulting in new curricula and teaching strategies for such purposes as serving adult students, removing barriers to women and minorities in science, improving students' writing and problem solving skills, and increasing student retention.

Diversity

Grant recipients have improved instruction for a diverse student constituency, and improved students' knowledge and understanding of diversity in a democratic society.

Technology

CAPHE grants have helped colleges use technology in teaching, learning, and campus administration; and have aided faculty in designing courseware and new course delivery systems.

Contributions To Community

Participating colleges have developed programs to serve disadvantaged precollege students, bolster community service programs, and participate in local K-16 educational reform.

Teacher
Preparation

CAPHE support has helped colleges to strengthen their teacher preparation programs, and to recruit more highly qualified liberal arts graduates into the profession.

International Education

Several colleges have improved their students' international understanding and experience through the development of area studies programs and curricula, and new, interactive relationships with colleges and organizations throughout the world.
