American Graduate Fellowships

The American Graduate Fellowships were designed to promote and support doctoral study in the humanities by accomplished graduates of small and mid-sized private liberal arts colleges. Two fellowships were awarded annually through 2011. The fellowships were available to students from eligible institutions who enrolled in doctoral programs at any of a select group of leading independent research universities in the United States, Great Britain, and Ireland to study history, philosophy, literature and languages, and fine arts.

This program was funded by the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation and provided awards during 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011.

Current Status

The final year of the American Graduate Fellowships program was 2011.

2011 American Graduate Fellows

Melissa Pankake graduated from Ursinus College and will pursue a Ph.D. in English with a medieval concentration at Princeton University

Natasha Roule graduated from Wellesley College and will pursue a Ph.D. in musicology at Harvard University

2009 American Graduate Fellows

Robert Hoffman graduated from Rollins College and is pursuing a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania.

Matthew Loar graduated from Washington and Lee University

and will study classics at Stanford University.

2008 American Graduate Fellows

Jacob Swenson graduated from Willamette University and is pursuing a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Chicago.

Jennifer Tate graduated from Hendrix College and is pursuing a Ph.D. in English at Washington University in St. Louis.

2007 American Graduate Fellows

Daniel Berntson graduated from Northwestern College and is pursuing a Ph.D. in philosophy at Brown University.

Adam Spry graduated from Pacific Lutheran University and is pursuing a Ph.D. in American literature at Columbia University.
