Teachers for the 21st Century

The Teachers for the 21st Century (Teach 21) program was cosponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) and Microsoft Corporation. It was a project within Microsoft’s Partners in Learning initiative, which seeks to influence K-12 education not only in the United States but also throughout the world. Through the Teachers for the 21st Century program, college and university faculty members who prepare future teachers became more familiar with 21st century skills and technologies. Faculty members participated in workshops, webinars, and online communities of practice developed specifically for this program as part of Microsoft's Partners in Learning initiative.

 Final Status

The Teach 21 program began in 2006 with the participation of competitively selected teams from 19 institutions. In February 2008, CIC invited applications to expand the program to another 50–100 teams from CIC member colleges and universities. The expanded program had four substantive foci—ePortfolios, science, mathematics, and multimedia collections of effective practices. Team members participated in webinars and online communities of practice developed specifically for the program, gaining access to national experts, proven resources to enhance learning, and to each other. The program concluded in 2010.
